Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is Verified by Swappie?
Verified by Swappie is an inspection service for used iPhones sold privately, for example on an online marketplace. Before the phone goes to the buyer, the seller sends it to our lab. We inspect it with the same 52-step process used for every Swappie phone and publish a report on its condition. If the phone passes, we send it on to the buyer.
Swappie is not part of the sale itself: we don't buy or sell the phone, and we don't handle the payment between the buyer and the seller.
How do I order a verification?
Order on verify.swappie.com. Either the seller or the buyer can order. You need the phone's model and IMEI, contact details for the seller and the buyer, and a link to the sale listing (or screenshots or a PDF of it). After payment, the seller gets a prepaid shipping label and instructions for sending the phone to our lab.
What exactly is tested?
The same 52-step inspection behind every Swappie phone: display and touch, cameras, speakers and microphones, Face ID, charging, buttons, sensors, Wi-Fi and cellular. Before that we check that the phone is genuine, not activation-locked, not SIM-locked and not reported lost or stolen. Battery health is measured and shown on the report. The exterior is graded. Condition is graded Fair, Good, Excellent or Premium, the same scale used on swappie.com.
Does the phone have to match the listing?
If the phone is listed for sale, yes. Add the listing link when you order, and the lab compares the phone with it: model, storage, colour, function and condition. If the phone is clearly different from what the listing says, it does not pass.
Who pays, and what does it cost?
€9.90, with shipping both ways and the report included. Either the seller or the buyer can order, and whoever orders pays when ordering.
How long does it take?
Testing takes about 2 business days after the phone reaches our lab. From the seller to our lab and on to the buyer, expect 4 to 6 business days in total. You get an email at every stage.
How do I prepare the phone?
Back up your data and move it to your new phone.
-1) Turn off Find My and 2) Sign out of iCloud,
-Erase the phone in Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Erase All Content and Settings.
-Take out the SIM card and send the phone only, without a case or charger.
-If you think the battery may be swollen, do not send the phone. Contact us instead.
What if Find My is still on when the phone arrives?
We can't inspect a phone that is still locked to an account. We'll contact the seller and ask them to remove the lock. If it isn't removed within one month, we may return the phone to the seller without inspecting it, and the fee is not refunded.
Will the data on the phone be erased?
Yes. As part of the inspection, the phone is reset to factory settings and all data on it is erased. The seller is responsible for backing up their data before sending the phone.
Does the inspection affect the phone's warranty?
If the phone is still under a manufacturer's or retailer's warranty, opening it for the inspection may affect that warranty. A screen protector or protective packaging may also have to be removed and can't be put back or returned. Swappie doesn't compensate for either of these.
Is my phone safe while it is with you?
Every shipment is tracked. From the moment the phone arrives at our lab until we hand it to the carrier, it is our responsibility.
What happens if the phone does not pass?
The report shows which check did not pass and why, and we send the phone back to the seller. Return shipping is included.
What happens if the buyer's delivery address is missing?
If the phone passes, we send it straight to the buyer. If we don't have the buyer's address, we hold the phone for 14 days. If the address isn't provided by then, the phone goes back to the seller.
Who can see the report?
Anyone who has both the order ID and the phone's IMEI. Share them with the other side of the sale and they can open the report from anywhere.
How do I open the report?
Go to verify.swappie.com, choose Check a report and enter the order ID and the phone's IMEI.
Is the report a warranty or a guarantee?
No. The report shows the phone's condition at the time of the inspection. Swappie doesn't give a warranty on the phone, isn't part of the sale between the buyer and the seller, and doesn't handle the payment between them. Passing the inspection also doesn't mean the phone meets Swappie's own standards for its refurbished phones.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
You can cancel within 14 days of ordering, as long as the verification hasn't been completed yet. Email [email protected] with your order ID. If we haven't received the phone within 30 days of the order, we cancel it and refund the fee automatically. Refunds go to your original payment method within 14 days.
The fee is not refunded if the phone doesn't pass, because the inspection has been done and you receive the report.
The marketplace I use already offers a check. Why this one?
In-app checks are tied to one marketplace and usually only confirm that the phone works and is not locked. Verified by Swappie works with any marketplace or a private sale, includes shipping both ways, grades the condition with photos and checks the phone against the listing. The report stays online, tied to the phone's IMEI.
Which phones and countries are covered?
Verification is live in Finland for now, for iPhone 11 and newer models. We plan to add more countries and devices later.
