Buying refurbished – what you need to know #

What does “refurbished” mean?

A refurbished phone is a pre-owned device that has been professionally repaired, tested, and cleaned to ensure it works like new. Unlike a typical second-hand phone, a refurbished phone from Swappie goes through a rigorous inspection by our in-house technicians, so you can trust it’s fully functional, reliable, and comes with a warranty—just like buying new, but more sustainable and affordable!

What are Swappie’s condition grades?

Swappie offers four condition grades based on appearance, but every phone is fully tested, unlocked, and works like new:

  • Premium – Looks brand new with no scratches and at least a 95% battery health.
  • Excellent – May have tiny scratches but no noticeable marks.
  • Very Good – Has visible signs of wear, like scratches or small dents.
  • Fair – Shows heavier wear, with deeper scratches or dents.

No matter the condition, all Swappie phones are fully functional, rigorously tested, and come with a warranty for peace of mind!

What is the Premium Series Swappie phone?

Swappie’s Premium Series represents the highest standard of refurbished iPhones, offering exceptional quality and performance. Here’s what makes it stand out:

  • Like-New Condition – A Premium Series phone looks brand new, with no visible signs of use.
  • 95% Battery Health – Equipped with a high-quality battery, ensuring maximum lifespan and top performance, just like a new device.
  • Buyback Guarantee – When you’re ready for an upgrade, Swappie guarantees to buy back your Premium phone—whether it’s been one month or a year. The amount offered depends on the phone’s condition at the time.

Sustainable Choice: Premium Series devices deliver a like-new experience while generating 78% less CO₂e emissions than new phones.

For buyback inquiries, contact our customer support, and we’ll guide you through the process.

What’s the battery health of a Swappie phone?

We’re proud to offer some of the highest battery standards in the refurbished iPhone market. Every Swappie phone comes with a battery that has at least 86% capacity, carefully tested to ensure reliable, long-lasting performance in everyday use.

For those who want maximum peace of mind, many models are also available with a Premium Battery — a brand-new battery installed and tested by our in-house professionals, meeting strict quality standards and delivering 100% battery health for even greater power and longevity.

Are Swappie phones waterproof?

Since our phones are refurbished, we cannot guarantee that their original IP67 or IP68 water resistance is still valid. To avoid liquid damage, we recommend keeping your phone away from water—this includes swimming, showering, and exposure to high-pressure water.

Important: Water damage is not covered by the Swappie Warranty, as moisture can cause long-term internal damage. To keep your phone in top condition, it’s best to keep it dry!

Do Swappie phones come with accessories?

Yes! Every Swappie phone comes in a Swappie-branded box with a charging cable (Lightning-to-USB for iPhone 14 and older, USB-C for iPhone 15 and newer) and a SIM tray ejector tool.

What’s not included?

Charging adapters and headphones aren’t included but can be purchased separately.

Want extras?

You can add accessories like charging adapters, wireless chargers, protective cases, tempered glass, and Swappie Care at checkout.

How does Swappie ensure AirPods quality?

The AirPods are professionally refurbished and pass through Swappie’s stringent quality verification before reaching you.

At Swappie, we stand behind every product with our Swappie Quality Guarantee. This means that we verify performance, sound integrity, and overall functionality to ensure the product delivers the experience you expect. If a product does not meet our performance requirements, it does not pass our quality control.

How can I trust the sound quality of refurbished AirPods?

We understand that sound quality is the most important factor when buying AirPods. That’s why every pair of AirPods undergoes performance verification to ensure the internal drivers maintain factory-grade frequency accuracy.

What about hygiene? Are refurbished AirPods safe to use?

All AirPods are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before resale. Acoustic mesh components are cleaned to restore proper airflow and sound clarity. This ensures both hygiene and optimal sound performance.

How is battery life ensured in refurbished AirPods?

Battery performance is checked as part of our quality verification process. Units must meet functional battery standards to be approved for sale. If the battery does not perform within acceptable limits, the product does not pass our quality control. Additionally, Swappie’s warranty gives you peace of mind in case any issues arise.

Will the AirPods still support features like Active Noise Cancellation and Spatial Audio?

Yes. All core features such as Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, and Spatial Audio are tested for proper functionality.

Can refurbished AirPods still deliver high-quality audio for music, calls, and more?

Absolutely. Swappie’s quality verification ensures the internal hardware maintains the clarity and frequency precision needed for detailed listening experiences, including music, podcasts, and calls.

What if my AirPods were previously linked to another Apple ID?

All AirPods are factory reset and cleared before resale. They are delivered ready to pair with your device. You will not receive a product that is locked to a previous user.

MacBooks #

Are these MacBooks refurbished by Swappie?

Yes. Every MacBook is refurbished in-house by our expert technicians. We own the entire technical process, from battery testing to keyboard localisation.

I am worried about the keyboard layout. What if I get the wrong one?

We perform both physical and software-based localisation to directly address “keyboard anxiety.” Every unit is updated using high-quality keycaps. Our localisation follows three distinct paths: Native EU (ISO-to-ISO) where no conversion is needed; Cross-EU Swap (ISO-to-ISO) which is physically seamless as key shapes are identical; and Global Conversion (ANSI-to-ISO), which uses specialised keycap replacements. In Global Conversions, while the characters will match your language perfectly, there may remain a minor visual difference in the physical shape of the Enter and Shift keys. Additionally, every MacBook ships with a localised consumer manual to guide you through the initial keyboard setup.

Why does my MacBook look like it has a different “Enter” key?

Depending on where we sourced the original unit (for example, the US), the physical shape of the Enter or Shift keys may vary slightly (ANSI vs ISO layouts). However, the characters printed on the keys will always match your local language, and the device will function exactly as expected.

How can I trust the battery life on a refurbished laptop?

MacBook batteries are much more durable than smartphone batteries. While an iPhone is rated for 500 cycles, a MacBook is held to a strict 800-cycle safety guard. A battery at our 86% floor remains very stable for daily use. We only sell units that meet our strict performance thresholds.

How does Swappie actually refurbish a MacBook battery?

There’s a difference between checking a battery and actually validating it, and we do the latter.

When a MacBook comes through our strict refurbishment process, we don’t just read the health percentage and move on. We test each battery’s thermal behaviour and power-draw stability under real operating conditions. That means we verify it can support the processor reaching peak performance speeds (what Apple calls “Turbo Boost”) without throttling, even at 86% capacity.

Why does that matter? Because a battery that looks fine on paper but can’t sustain performance under load will let you down at the worst moment. Our process is designed to catch that before the device reaches you.

If a battery doesn’t pass, it doesn’t go out. Simple as that.

How can I trust the battery life if it says “Service Recommended”?

Transparency is at the core of our expertise. macOS displays “Service Recommended” once a battery reaches 79% of its original capacity. However, our quality threshold is set at 86%, which ensures you are shielded from this warning for much longer. We don’t just look at a number; we test for reliability. Because Apple Silicon (M1–M5) is so energy-efficient, a battery at 86% capacity still provides exceptional runtime that outperforms many new devices on the market. We guarantee that your battery is stable, safe, and ready for high-performance productivity from day one.

What does “Service Recommended” actually mean for a MacBook battery?

It’s a maturity marker, not a fault.

MacBooks tend to be plugged in and unplugged more intermittently, and they’re rated to an 800-cycle limit over a longer lifespan. Reaching that threshold, with battery health sitting at 86% or above, is a normal part of a MacBook’s life, not a sign that something has gone wrong.

At 86%, a Swappie MacBook still delivers strong, reliable performance. The processor runs at full speed, everyday tasks are handled without issue, and for students or professionals who prioritise value and sustainability, it’s a genuinely capable machine.

The “Service Recommended” label reflects where the battery is in its lifecycle. It doesn’t mean the device is failing, it means it’s been used, and it’s still got plenty to give.

If you have any questions about your battery’s health, our support team is happy to walk you through it.

Are these MacBooks capable of running the latest software and AI features?

We focus exclusively on models from 2020 onwards featuring Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4, and M5). These chips are designed for high-performance productivity and support the latest macOS features.

What is the difference between the aesthetic grades for MacBooks?

Our MacBook grading follows the same core principle as all our Swappie products: the grade reflects only the aesthetic appearance of the device, focusing on the screen, body, and keyboard.

Battery across all grades: the minimum health threshold for all non-Premium grades is set at 86%, and any battery falling below 86% health or exceeding the 800-cycle limit will be replaced with a brand-new battery.

  • Premium Series: Flawless body, screen, and keyboard. Minimum 95% battery health, with the option to upgrade to a brand-new 100% battery.
  • Excellent: Near perfect. Only the faintest micro-scratches under direct light. Battery health 86% or higher.
  • Good: Light, honest signs of use. A few faint marks on the body or screen, and possible shine on well-loved keys. Battery health 86% or higher.
  • Fair: Clear signs of a previous life. Visible scratches and small dents, with some variation across the keys. Works just as well, costs noticeably less. Battery health 86% or higher.
Why should I buy a refurbished MacBook from Swappie instead of a new one?

By choosing Swappie, you get a high-performance machine powered by Apple Silicon, access to top-tier technology, and the peace of mind that comes from extending the life of premium tech, all while actively reducing e-waste. You’re covered by our 12-month warranty and 14-day free returns, our quality guarantee and a professional unboxing experience — at a fraction of the cost of buying new. Because smart tech ownership shouldn’t mean overpaying.
